What’s the difference between traditional and infrared saunas?
What’s the difference between traditional and infrared saunas?
Traditional saunas heat the air with a heater surrounded by heated stones. Traditional saunas run hot, with typical air temperatures ranging from 160°to 230° Fahrenheit. Water laddled onto the hot stones creates steam and a more immersive sauna experience. Traditional saunas have been around for thousands of years and were used in the famous Finnish longitudinal study reporting that those who sauna 4 to 7 times per week had a 40% reduction in risk of death from all cause mortality.
In contrast, infrared saunas heat the body by penetrating it with infrared rays. There are no stones or steam. The air temperature only gets to 120°-150° Fahrenheit. This makes for a gentler, less visceral experience. While infrared saunas have also been shown to have many health benefits, they have only been in use for a few decades.
Honey Hut only offers traditional saunas — the time-tested, hot, and steamy sauna experience.

How hot do our saunas get?
How hot do our saunas get?
While the average traditional sauna temperature usually lies between 150°-175°, we like it hot! Every heater we offer with our saunas is specifically paired based on size and power to get your sauna cooking. Our Harvia heaters reach up to 190° Fahrenheit, and if you like it really hot, our HUUM heaters reach up to 230°.
How long do our saunas take to heat up?
How long do our saunas take to heat up?
The time it takes to heat up our saunas is weather-dependent, but pre-heating our saunas generally takes about half an hour, give or take ten minutes. This is a great reason to add a Wi-Fi controller to your heater, so you can start your sauna pre-heating from anywhere via mobile app.
Which sauna heater should I choose?
Which sauna heater should I choose?
Every sauna, based upon size, is automatically paired with the three heater options. All three are specifically chosen to ensure a sweet, hot experience. With each sauna, we offer a Harvia, a Huum, and a wood-fired heater option.
For simplicity, we recommend the Harvia. For style and if you like it really hot, we recommend the Huum. For convenience, we recommend adding a Wifi-enabled heater control to either so you can start your sauna from anywhere via mobile app.
If you’re in a rural forested area, nothing beats the fiery glow of a wood-fired heater.

It generally takes two or three people two or three hours to assemble a sauna. We include a manual in the box and you can find our assembly videos here.

What sort of electrical service is required?
What sort of electrical service is required?
We highly recommend hiring a licensed electrician to wire your heater. Similar to jacuzzis, sauna heaters require 220-240v of power and wiring based on maximum amperage of your circuit breaker is essential.
Each heater has specific requirements, let your electrician know the make, model, and kW-size of your heater. They can then wire based on the manufacturer's specific instructions for your heater.
How much does a sauna cost to operate?
How much does a sauna cost to operate?
Based on the average cost of electricity in the USA, a two hour sauna session (30-40 minutes to pre-heat) costs about $1 - $2 depending on the kW-size of the heater. Used every other day, that’s $15 to $30 per month.
Do saunas require a lot of maintenance?
Do saunas require a lot of maintenance?
Saunas require surprisingly little maintenance.
Initially, our outdoor saunas may require additional tightening of their bands after the first few months as the wood adjusts to the temperature and humidity in your area.
Both our Heated-Treated Pine and Red Cedar woods are highly weather resistant, however, if your sauna is exposed to the elements, it is also a good idea to stain the exterior (not the interior) of your sauna with a UV protective stain to preserve the color of the wood over time. We recommend no VOC stains and speaking with someone at your local hardware store for recommendations based on the climate in your area.
For the interior, you can periodically pressure wash or scrub the floor and benches with soap and water and then give them a good rinse, but this is hardly necessary. The best way to maintain your sauna is simply to use it!
Where should I put my sauna?
Where should I put my sauna?
Place your sauna somewhere flat. We generally don’t recommend placing your sauna on grass or dirt. For longevity, the best surfaces are level decking, concrete, or gravel.
Also, if your outdoor sauna is in direct exposure to the elements, we recommend adding shingles to protect the sauna from sun and rain.

Is cold plunging safe?
Is cold plunging safe?
Cold plunging is considered safe, however, there are potential risks to anything and minimizing potential risk makes sense. We recommend the following:
- Consult with your primary care provider before you cold plunge. They know you best and can advise you based on your medical history.
- Start at a more comfortable temperature and with less time. You can work your way colder and longer as your body gets used to cold plunging regularly.
- If you feel very uncomfortable, dizzy, or otherwise feel unwell during your ice bath, get out slowly but immediately.
- Non-slip mats and slow entry and exit of your cold plunge are good ideas.
- If you’re nervous or want to take extra precautions starting out, have a friend or family member hang nearby while you plunge.

How cold do our cold plunges get?
We love our saunas hot and plunges cold, our cold plunges can be set as low as 39° Fahrenheit.
How long will it take to setup?
How long will it take to setup?
Your cold plunge will arrive in a shipping crate with curbside delivery to your address. It takes about half an hour to get your cold plunge from the box to setup and chilling.
Where should I place my cold plunge?
Where should I place my cold plunge?
Our cold plunges weigh 200-500 lbs. Filling with water will add an additional ~1,000 lbs. Wherever you place your cold plunge should be strong enough to support the weight of the filled tub ~1,500 lbs.
We recommend placing the tub on a concrete pad or wooden deck that is engineered to support the weight of the filled tub.
We do not recommend placing the tub directly on dirt as it can sink into the ground.
What sort of electrical service is required?

Our cold plunges can be plugged into a standard 110V outlet. We highly recommend operating your cold plunge on a dedicated circuit.
How often should I change the water?
How often should I change the water?
Your cold plunge’s pump and filter circulate and clean the water, but changing the water periodically is important. We generally recommend changing the water once a month, but this depends on how frequently you use the cold plunge.
What sort of maintenance is required?
What sort of maintenance is required?
A filter cartridge typically lasts one year, however, the cartridge must be cleaned regularly to last this lifespan.
We recommend cleaning the filter once per month (this pairs well with a monthly change of the water).
To clean the filter cartridge, remove it from the filter and put it in a bucket of water. Add a cleaning agent, swish around to mix, and let the cartridge sit in the bucket for 24 hours. After 24 hours, remove the cartridge, rinse, and leave it out to dry. Once the filter is dry, it is again ready for use.
We recommend having a pair of filter cartridges. When it's time to clean one filter cartridge, then use the second. This way filter cleaning never puts your cold plunge out of commission.
Can I use it in the winter?
Can I use it in the winter?
While our cold plunges have both cooling and heating functions and will stay at a set temperature as long as they’re on and operating, we highly recommend draining the water from your cold plunge if freezing temperatures are expected.
If water is left in your cold plunge when the temperature drops below freezing, the water pipes inside the chiller can freeze (which causes water to expand), potentially damaging or destroying the machine.
Any damage to a cold plunge due to frozen water is not covered under our product warranty or 3rd party equipment warranties.
